Don’t expect it today! a Home Depot Rant

Customers are the lifeblood of any store. Without customers where would amazon be? Without customers who would costco sell to? Without customers what would wegmans do. In a word NOTHING. Here is my story:

I set about to purchase a brandy-dandy new door for the main entrance of my home in NJ (backstory: earlier incident had caused the fire dept to break my door down) I had a empty home depot card in my pocket and time to burn so I headed there with my wife, we found the door we wanted and went about with a special order (door needed to be resized to fit) we signed the dotted line and since the door did not need to be paid yet (we had 3 days to decide if we wanted to purchase it) we left the store. We were called 4 days later by a rep from the home depot store asking us if we still wanted it since we had not come back, I said yes. Here is when the fun begins:

We go back to the store to pay for it and the receipt we have refuses to scan on the home depot registers, the rep tries 2 times and nothing we are sent back to the dept where we originally made the purchase. They look at the receipt and say;

Oh the reason it doesn’t work is that you had to pay for it within 24hrs of getting the receipt.

We reply back but we were told 3 days we would have to decide, if we even wanted it he said yea you do but you need to pay within 24hrs. I can print you out a new one… And by the way this does not include delivery (backstory: original receipt DID include delivery)

Fast Forward Present Day:

on 12/22 my wife and I after unsuccessfully attempting to find out how to get the door home (we had received the call that it arrived) we went to the local home depot to schedule a delivery. 75.00 and 30min later we had it scheduled. It was to be delivered on 12/26 in the AM hours which to Home Depot means Dawn to Noon. Keep this in mind it is important.

Today, at around 10:30am I decided to call the home depot to see what the status of the delivery was, The department that handles doors said “we don’t handle that you need to call pro services.” After 2 hangups and 2 no answers I finally got a rep on the phone we will call him Bob:

Me: I would like to know the status of my door being delivered?
Bob: well you are on the list to be delivered today but my driver is a little behind on his deliveries, you are the only one on the list. Give him about 1hr, call me back if nothing shows up.
Time is now 12:30pm

Me: Hi I would like to know the status of my item to be delivered, I signed for an AM delivery and I have no item yet.
New Rep: The driver is on his way to you, you should have it soon.
Me: On His way where I haven’t given you my name yet.
New Rep: Well I have 2 deliveries here so I figured it must be one you guys.
Me: How long till delivery?
New Rep: No Idea sir I don’t control the driver.

Time is now 3:00pm

Me: Hi I would like to know the status of my item to be delivered, I signed for an AM delivery and I have no item yet.
Another Rep: Yea you are on the list I don’t know why you have not received it yet, please hold on (gets on walkie) Hi Bill this is Jim customer is on the phone asking about a delivery.
Bill: Yea he called earlier I don’t know whats going on with that delivery.
Another Rep: Well he wants to know when it is coming is it on the truck yet?
Bill: No it’s still here.
Another Rep: Sir the item is still here I don’t know what happened to it today.
Me: So when can I expect it?
Another Rep: Don’t expect it today. I need to speak to a manager on this. I will call you back soon.

So after 7 phone calls and multiple lies by home depot I still do not have my door and no one knows where it is. The driver who was to deliver it first was running late, then backed up on deliveries then never showed up, then had to many deliveries to handle. I urge you all to shop at a store where people at least give a da*n about the customer.

Lowes anyone.
